Being a Bolognesi
Last night was my first night out in Aix. I have class at 3:30 today, and it is my only class, so going out was acceptable. My housemate and I went to Wohoo, a popular ex-pat bar (I will refer to myself as an ex-pat instead of foreign student because ex-pat sounds cooler.) There were a lot of IAU people there and it was a good time. I met new people in the program along with a pretty cool French guy and a British guy named Patrick.
When Wohoo closed at around 2, a group of IAU people along with British Patrick and I went to a different bar with live music. The band was really good, they sounded just like Earth Wind and Fire, who are actually really popular here. That bar wasn't as crowded, but it gave me a chance to talk British politics with British Patrick.
I learned about their parties and their leaders and public opinion etc. I found out that he is a law student studying some French law while in Aix. When he asked me what my major was I told him I was in Advertising. He said 'so you're an Ad man?' I responded with 'well I'm no Don Draper but that is what I am studying' Then, to much delight he said 'you definitely have the hair for it!' Boom, powerpart gettin' some love.
I found ten Euro on the ground and British ex-pat Patrick asked if 'I fancied a pint?' so of course I got one and we continued to talk both British and U.S. politics until everyone was ready to leave which was about 3 ish, I think.
Overall it was a good night, got to see some weeknight nightlife without being too tired for my first class.
